We are so excited with the additional of this wonderful service at Tammy Becker Beauty Salon in London. According to research Laser Hair Removal is clinically proven to be the most effective method of permanently reducing excess body hair. Ideally the best results are achieved by having a series of treatments over a period of time. Studies show that up to 95% of hair does not grow back after a course of hair removal treatments.

Ask any of our customers and they will tell you that laser treatments are less painful and shorter than electrolysis. The good news is this wonderful and effective treatment is suitable for all skin types.

How does laser hair removal work?

The most advanced and safest equipment is used at Tammy Becker Beauty Salon. We use a British made Polaris Nd:YAG laser. This laser is favoured by dermatologists as it is the safest and most successful type used for removal of hair on all skin types.

Before, during as well as after the treatment, the skin is cooled with specialist equipment as the laser does cause some warming (nothing to be concerned about though!) The procedure itself involves a laser beam being directed at the root of the hair follicles, this causes them to stop producing new hair growth. The laser is attracted to the pigment, Melanin in the hair and uses this to get to the core of the follicle.

To explain in more detail, the specially designed laser damages the follicle via a process called photothermolysis, consequently preventing growth. The hair, however does need to be at a certain growth phase for this to work. Not all hair will be at this phase at the time of treatment, therefore multiple treatments are recommended to decrease the rate of growth effectively over a time period.

Prior to treatment, Tammy will discuss what you are hoping to achieve. She will also examine your medical history, analyse your hair and skin type then carry out a skin patch test for safety. This is to make sure that you react normally to the treatment and will also give you peace of mind.

How long does each treatment take?

Treatment time can vary between 10 to 40 minutes, depending on the surface area being treated. If you are having a larger area treated, it will take longer however Tammy will advise you about this.

Is it safe?

Many people ask us if this treatment is 100% safe. Laser hair removal on darker skin tones always carries a risk as the skin pigment absorbs a lot of the laser in comparison to lighter skin tones. There are instances where this can lead to scarring, pigmentation and formation of what is known as keloid scarring. The prior patch test that Tammy performs, together with our expertise and advanced laser machine, will minimize this risk.

Various Skin types

The Fitzpatrick scale is used to assess the various skin types. Not all lasers can treat all skin types. The following skin types have been identified :

TYPE I

This skin is very pale and prone to sun burning and never tans.

TYPE II

Pale in colour, this skin type is very sensitive to sun and often burns, it is hard to tan.

TYPE III

Olive in colour, sensitive to sun and sometimes burns, tans slowly to light brown colour.

TYPE IV

Light brown colour, but not particularly sensitive to sun and rarely burns. This skin type tans easily to moderate brown colour.

TYPE V

Brown in colour, not sensitive to sun and rarely burns. This skin type tans very well.

TYPE VI

Dark to intense brown colour, insensitive to sun and never burns, deeply pigmented.

Is this treatment painful?

Without a doubt when compared to electrolysis, laser hair removal is considerably less painful. On occasion some clients will experience mild discomfort, however with the correct cooling equipment and aftercare, this is minimised completely.

Wondering how many treatments will be needed?

We will advise you of how many treatments you will require, as this is dependent on the area and type of hair. Generally speaking, 8-12 treatments on an area is recommended. Treatment taking place every four to six weeks.

Will you need any special aftercare?

Your skin may be temporarily sensitised and must be protected for at least 3 days after you have received treatment.

Good gentle after care remedies are sunscreen & aloe vera cream. These should be applied daily during the aftercare. You will find that there are increased levels of pigment after treatment. This will prevent darkening of the skin. We will make sure that you are given detailed after-care instructions post-treatment at our salon.

Ten Very Important Nd:YAG Laser Hair Removal Facts

Fact 1: Laser hair removal is not as painful as other hair removal procedures

Have you ever been waxed or had electrolysis or threading? If so you can expect that laser hair removal will be a walk-in-the-park!
